The Bay Bridge carries Interstate 80 across San Francisco Bay, connecting San Francisco with Oakland and the East Bay. Its western suspension spans and the newer eastern span meet at Yerba Buena Island, where the roadway passes through a tunnel, and it is one of the region's busiest commuter crossings.
