Üsküdar Square, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, has for centuries been a key crossing point between Istanbul's two continents. The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, a work of the great architect Mimar Sinan, stands right opposite the pier, while ferry landings and the Marmaray rail station make the square one of the city's busiest transfer hubs.
