Vancouver – Hwy 99 – Shell Road (Richmond) (northbound) live cam

In northern Richmond, where Shell Road meets Highway 99, this DriveBC camera looks north along the freeway toward Bridgeport and the Oak Street Bridge. With only a few kilometres left before the bridge, this is one of the spots where Vancouver-bound morning traffic first starts to bunch up.

The last kilometres before the bridge

In this area the six-lane freeway connects with Highway 91 and then reaches the Sea Island Way interchange, which serves Sea Island, home of Vancouver International Airport, and the Bridgeport transit hub on the Canada Line. The freeway then passes over the Canada Line, crosses the North Arm of the Fraser on the Oak Street Bridge of 1957 and drops onto city streets in Marpole. A transit link from Bridgeport Road onto southbound Highway 99 is among the recently completed improvements.

The Shell Road corridor

Shell Road cuts north to south through Richmond along a largely tree-lined corridor. The 3.6 km Shell Road Recreational Trail, between Alderbridge Way and Athabasca Drive, is one of the easy ways into Richmond Nature Park and its more than 100 acres of bog forest.

Northbound flow slows noticeably on weekday mornings as it nears the bridge, and wet winter days stretch the queue. A look at this Richmond live cam next to the forecast is a reasonable habit before heading into the city.
