Vancouver – Knight Street Bridge (northbound) live cam

Spanning the North Arm of the Fraser River, the Knight Street Bridge connects Richmond with south-east Vancouver. This DriveBC camera follows bridge traffic northbound, toward the Vancouver side.

Replacing the Fraser Street Bridge

Construction began in 1969 and the bridge opened on 15 January 1974. Planned as the Fraser Street Bridge Replacement, it took over from an older crossing that had load restrictions. Its total length is 1,436 m: a 238 m north bridge and a 1,198 m south bridge meeting on Mitchell Island. The six-lane deck narrows to four over the island, where the outer lanes double as the island's ramps. TransLink has owned and maintained it since 1999.

A heavily used crossing

With an average of more than 100,000 vehicles a day, it is the second busiest bridge in the Lower Mainland. At its south end it ties into Highway 99 and, since 1989, Highway 91; to the north it becomes Knight Street running into Vancouver. Merging at the Mitchell Island ramps often slows flow at rush hour. In winter, checking this Knight Street Bridge live cam against the weather is a reasonable precaution, since bridge decks can ice before surrounding roads.
