The Spice Bazaar in Eminönü was built as part of the New Mosque complex and is one of Istanbul's oldest and most colourful covered markets. Its Turkish name, Mısır Çarşısı or Egyptian Bazaar, recalls goods that once arrived from Egypt; today it is packed with spices, Turkish delight, nuts, coffee and deli products, popular with locals and visitors alike.
This Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality camera shows the area in front of the bazaar and Eminönü square. Through the day you can watch shoppers, pedestrians heading to the ferry piers and pigeons in the square. Crowds grow noticeably at weekends and in the days before religious holidays.
